Eventually and Inevitably…
I Will Let Go.
I’m thinking about surrender.
Like, really—surrendering.
Like, letting go.
Even just for a nanosecond.
Letting go of any resistance…
Letting go of any response…
(Even if it’s brilliant
And badly needed
On the planet).
Letting go of what I think should be happening.
Letting go of my fear of what will happen
If I let go!
Letting go
Of that
Which
No
Longer
Serves
Me.
All of it.
Just—letting go.
As I write this—
I wonder,
I ponder,
I deeply consider:
AM I ABLE?
I’m feeling
Pretty
Darn
Constricted
These
Days.
Maybe I could manage
A tiny letting go,
A minuscule moment
Of stopping.
Maybe stopping
Is the doorway
To surrender?
Wait one moment, Aruni.
Where and how
Do we practice surrendering?
On the yoga mat,
Yes.
When life shakes the stuffing
Out of us,
Yes.
When something,
Someone we adore
Is taken away,
Yes.
When we are
Physically exhausted,
Yes.
EVENTUALLY AND INEVITABLY.
That’s the kind of surrendered person
I am.
That’s my category—
EVENTUALLY AND INEVITABLY.
Then,
And only then,
I
Have been
Known
To
Let
Go.
~~~
I fully believe
That we don’t have to like
What we are surrendering into.
We do not have to like it.
For me,
I hold this as
A huge revelation.
Nor does surrender demand
Our passivity.
Oh, no, no,
NO.
It does however
Require us
To stop…
Something.
Old behaviors.
Old patterns.
Surrender does allow us
To take
Right action,
Which I understand as
The alignment,
The harmony
Of our intentions
With our actions.
And here’s the Big One,
A deep truth
For this wacky human:
Surrender absolutely requires us
To let go of the outcome
Of our surrender.
Damn it.
Friends,
What is life asking you
To let go of?
What is no longer
Serving you?
For me,
It is time,
Yet again,
To dial back
News
Consumption.
My riverbanks of
Slightly successful abstinence
Have strangely eroded.
I choose to
Practice
Surrendering
This behavior.
I’ll keep you posted.
Ugh.
It is interesting—
How can I
Be drawn
To a behavior
That is so
Profoundly
And obviously negative
And downright
Bad for me?
The human dilemma!
Maybe it’s just okay
The way it is.
Maybe I can simply
Practice leaning away
From this behavior,
Which is oddly addictive
For me.
Maybe it’s okay as it is.
And from the platform
Of Okay,
I can lean toward change.
That’s the plan.
Let’s transition to music!
This week, we deserve two songs, don’t you think? For two separate vibes, dear friends.
The first, Rapidly Approaching Ecstasy—Music for Mediation and Movement, by Dawn Avery and Larry Mitchell. The movement alive in this music I find so comforting. Consider swaying a bit to this lovely sound. Let’s not even call it dancing. Swaying works. Check it out.
Hallelujah.
And this second song is more a sit-and-rest-and-look-inside-deal (at least for me). I need and use and love repetition. Mantra, repeated phrases, all quiet me and unravel my anxiety. Here is Beautiful Chorus offering us I Release. Sit and receive, as you choose to, this heart-opening mantra.
Friends,
Centimeter
By
Centimeter,
Breath
By
Breath,
We are finding our way.
Syllable by syllable,
And
Nanosecond
By
Nanosecond,
We are practicing.
Right here
And
Right now,
Here we sit.
Right here
And
Right now,
Here we are.
In gratitude
For all
We
Are
Given,
All blessings,
Aruni
