A Holiday Hallelujah Extravaganza
This blog post is also available on my Facebook page to make sharing it with friends and family easy for you to do.
HALLELUJAH.
To be astonished.
To give praise.
To utter
A
Rejoicing
Cry.
Right on!
Hurrah!
Zowie!
HALLELUJAH.
What blows your heart open?
What startles you awake?
What beauty?
What
Sensation?
What
Sound?
What
Reminds
You?
For me…
It is
Sunrises,
Pink
And
Alive
Shimmering
On
Snow.
For me…
It is
Determined
Chipmunks
With
Giant
Full-winter
Meals
In
Their
Stretched-wide-open
Mouths.
For me…
It
Absolutely
Is
That
Random
And
Perfect
Smiling dog.
So many blessings.
I have an idea.
Let’s open our hearts,
Let’s open our eyes,
Let’s look for
The
Magical,
The
Everyday
Blessings
That
Touch
Us,
With Intentionality.
I, Aruni Nan Futuronsky,
Invite You,
Dear Reader,
to a
Holiday Hallelujah Extravaganza.
Let’s open our eyes and our heart to
The spellbinding,
The breathtaking,
The grace-filled moments.
Let’s notice what is already there.
Let’s create the circumstances
In which
We notice.
Holiday Hallelujah Extravaganza—
Let It Begin.
With fluidly and with flexibility and compassion,
With no right/wrong,
Here are
Our
Loving
Guidelines:
Between now and December 15,
Gather data with amusement
And
Love.
What blows your heart open?
What brings a Hallelujah
To your lips,
Or
A thank you
Or
A
Wow?
- What did you see?
- What did it feel like?
- What was your response?
- By December 15, send info to me
- Category # One—the most amount of Hallelujah per day
- Category # Next—the most unique specific Hallelujah experience
- Category # Final—the most effort invested in creating the circumstances in which a Hallelujah emerges
- Winners in categories will receive one of my three books (your pick!), delivered on your doorstep, inscribed, and blessed.
- Winners will be announced on the eve of Sunday, 12/19
We are of course all winners.
It’s a loving,
Everybody/wins/
Nobody/loses
Extravaganza
Practice.
Let’s
Open our hearts
to the season
Of
Light
and
Of
Grace
And
Of
Hallelujah.

Here is Annie Lamott, my personal hero, a magnificent writer who rides the line between hilarity and deep spirituality:
“Gorgeous, amazing things come into our lives when we are paying attention: mangoes, grandnieces, Bach, ponds. This happens more often when we have as little expectation as possible. If you say, “Well, that’s pretty much what I thought I’d see,” you are in trouble. At that point, you have to ask yourself why you are even here. […] Astonishing material and revelation appear in our lives all the time. Let it be. Unto us, so much is given. We just have to be open for business.”

And of course, the children, the children. P.S. 22 from Staten Island, the Children’s Choir, singing Leonard Cohen’s startling offering:
