There Are No Words*
October 13, 2023
Dear Friends,
With a broken heart, I share with you tonight’s sermon from Rabbi Angel Buchdahl, New York City’s Central Synagogue senior rabbi.
The complexities of the Middle East, before last week’s terrorist attack, were confusing and horrifying.
Now, a week after the Hamas’ attack, it is a new world in which we live—Jew, non-Jew, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, all.
No matter your beliefs, please listen to Rabbi Angela’s words. Tonight, she has provided a context, a container in which my broken heart can be held.
I end with words from Hatikvah, the state of Israel’s national anthem, the song sung at the sermon’s end:
“…to a free people in our land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.”
And I add,
May we,
Or our
Children,
Or our
Children’s
Children
See the day,
The day
All people,
Palestinian
And
Jew
All
Live
Freely
In
Our
Holy Land.
